“It’s purrfect!” I say, scooping up Pepper and spinning around in a circle. “Thank you so much!”

“That’s not all! Go on, show her, Ben!” Mr. Anderson and Ben have huge smiles on their faces.

Ben reveals a bag hidden behind his back. Inside, there are four small triangle-shaped pieces of blue fabric. Ben sewed the words Visit Me at The Purrfect Cup onto each one!

“They’re kerchiefs to tie around the cats’ necks! To increase visibility for the café!” Ben winks at Mama. “They were actually Ryan’s idea. He thought the cats should look nice when they’re on TV.”

“The cats always look nice,” I say. Ryan scowls, but when I tie one of the kerchiefs around Pepper’s neck, his face goes back to smiling. Pepper tries to bite it and shows me her grumpiest cat face, but that’s okay. She looks prettier than ever.

“I can’t believe it. I think we’re ready for the show!” I say.

“Well, that’s good to hear,” Mrs. Patel says as she walks into the doorway of the café. “Because I just got off the phone with Ms. Sato. She wants you to go to the arena today for a trial run.”

“A trial what, now?” I ask.

“Don’t worry,” says Mrs. Patel. “It’s just a quick meet-and-greet so the cats can see the arena. Ms. Sato thinks it will be good for them to see the obstacle course she has set up.”

“That sounds fun, doesn’t it, Kira?” Alex asks.

I’m not so sure. I wish we had known about the trial run earlier. Pepper jumps out of my arms and coughs up a huge hair ball.

“You and me both,” I say.
